Chapter at a glance
This chapter is a guide to doing a statistics project. The NCERT chapter has no exercise questions; instead, it walks through two sample projects (a consumer awareness survey on a product, and a study of a government data source) and lists suggested project topics. The steps below summarise what the chapter teaches, for use while writing a project.
Step | What to do |
|---|---|
1. Identify the problem | Choose a clear topic and objective (e.g. consumer awareness about a detergent brand) |
2. Choose the target group | Decide the population and the sample (e.g. 100 households in the locality) |
3. Collect data | Primary data through a questionnaire or interview schedule; or secondary data from Census, NSO, RBI, Economic Survey |
4. Organise and present data | Classify, tabulate, and draw bar/pie diagrams, histograms and line graphs |
5. Analyse and interpret | Use percentages, averages, measures of dispersion, correlation and index numbers |
6. Conclusion | State findings, limitations and suggestions |
7. Bibliography | List all sources used |
